Welcome to the World Doodle Project

I'm an interior designer and am passionate about the brilliance of the human brain and the many ways creativity can unwittingly present itself--I certainly need it on a daily basis to keep my career going strong.

I started The World Doodle Project to research and celebrate everyday creativity from people of all walks of life.

Years ago, after graduating from architecture school I worked part-time in a real-estate office (it sucks graduating into a recession).  Growing up in the heart of Gen-X, I was a little bored with the "mainstream" job I took on.  Looking back, I realize I had cast judgement on the corporate world and business suits surrounding me.

However, one day I was surprised to see a richly-composed drawing sitting on the desk of one of the most tie-wearing agents in the company.  I was even more surprised to find out it was not a drawing, but a mere doodle.  And not from an artist, but a Real Estate Agent.  Digging a little further, I found that a couple of the guys had been doodling away while negotiating on the phone all week. But their doodles weren't scratchy or unintelligible.  They flowed, were unintentionally composed and rich with layers of creative energy.  To these guys their doodles where mindless scratches that helped them pass their day.  But to me each artist's drawing had its own style and sophistication.  Click hereto see these original inspiring doodles.

I was inspired by their ego-free creations and since then have been curious about doodles from people of all walks of life.  I created this website to celebrate our innate creativity--who knows what we'll learn from each other.

Is there a common thread to our doodles? Do doctors doodle differently than lawyers?  What about people from different cultural backgrounds?

Do different shapes that we draw mean something deeper than a scratch on paper?  I'm hoping to find this out through submissions from people around the world, and at the same time celebrate the creative energy that we all have flowing through us.  Because whether we studied art or not, our collective creative energy is there.

So if you or someone you know is a persistent doodler (whether they appear to be beautiful or not), please go to the Participate tab and join in on the project!
