One of my New Years resolutions is to continue to update my doodle research while I study. It may not be as frequent as I like over the next several months, but at least WDP will be getting the love it needs. Once these exams are out of the way, I'll have time to feed my soul with creative energy again--so please continue to send me your doodles and comments and know that the World Doodle Project is here to stay--just a little slow for a while!

Recently, I received a sheet of highly skilled doodles from Christopher, who has a fascinating combination of interests. Check out his background and doodle here and let me know if you think I'm way off-base. Enjoy!

It was hardly a vacation, but I'm back!

Whew! Talk about a hiatus. My apologies to the doodle-lovers out there in this world, but I've been bad and have neglected my site. This year started out short-staffed and insanely busy, and now I'm focusing on my architecture exams. No excuses, for me falling silent, but that's why.

But I've learned my lesson. Today, I went to my email in a vain attempt to clear out the doodle cobwebs and found that someone had sent me a stunning doodle a couple of months ago and I didn't even realize! Here she took the time to share her doodle with me and I didn't even respond. She has officially inspired me to get back on track with WDP.

Her name is Jaiya and here is a link to her beautiful doodle. Jaiya is an architect and feng shui practitioner. I've decided to locate her doodle under architects because I'd like to compare her doodles with the other architects and see if there is a difference because, 1) she is female and all the others are male, and 2) she integrates feng shui, while the others (so far) do not.

There are many more submissions to be posted, so stay tuned!

Innocent doodles and our tax dollars

Of course I want to see this girl's doodle. And from the silly principal and police who arrested this poor girl. Geez, what a waste of our tax dollars.

Is there a common thread?

As I start to receive doodles from more and more people, the World Doodle Project is beginning to see similarities between professions. While I need more doodles from outside the U.S. (I mean, I really am curious whether the Japanese doodle differently than the Italians,) I am beginning to receive doodles from people of a variety of professions. Maybe there'll be a common thread by profession or maybe personal doodle styles, I don't know, but it's exciting to see the story unfold.

No question, there is a lot of sadness and pain going on in the world right now. This drives me even more to focus on what is inspiring and creative--because that is where growth and change take place. Einstein wisely said "Imagination is more important than knowledge." With a little imagination, the power of one person is enormous. I am celebrating that creative power in all of us because it reminds me how capable we all are.

Speaking of inspiration, check out this anonymous doodle from an unexpected profession.

So at this party I meet an acquaintance--a creative guy who seems to have a unique...and positive outlook on life. He's one of those rare people who is naturally easy to talk to, so I do something I never do and actually tell him about the Doodle project. I know. I'm horrible at marketing myself, so the fact that I said anything is out of the ordinary for me.

We got to talking about how do you define creativity...or what does it mean to do something creative? And I loved his response, "I think how you choose to interact with other people can creative expression." And he went on to talk about allowing yourself to be open to others...perhaps a shy person being himself and open to meeting a new person is a creative act.

And now me with a corny metaphor, but if a blooming flower is nature's creation in action, then so would be a person who is opening up one's true self to others.

And this got me thinking about how shy I can be when meeting new people socially. I decided to be a fine artist and enjoy myself, be myself and not worry about saying the wrong thing. I mean, we're all just flowers in a field, individually beautiful, but not all that different from each other. I never did make it to the gym.
